KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND PRACTICES OF BATWA WOMEN IN INFANT AND/OR CHILD FEEDING

DESCRIPTIVE CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY ABOUT 100 BATWA WOMEN OF KIRUNDO SUMMARY This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that was conducted on Batwa women from villages in Kirundo province from 19 to 30 December 2018. The purpose of our study was to analyze Batwa women's knowledge, attitudes and practices in infant and/or child feeding. One hundred Batwa women were included in our study. The mean age of participants was 28.47 ± 5.84 years. Fifty-six percent were in the 25-35 age group. More than half (53%) were farmers and 76% were illiterate. Nearly 1/6 (16%) were single mothers. Only 21% of respondents were able to define exclusive breastfeeding. The ideal duration of breastfeeding was 2 years or more for 67% of respondents. For 73% of respondents, food diversification is introduced at 6 months.
